I’m completely outraged. It’s come to my attention that Tennessee, my (currently unfortunate) home state, is trying to pass a PRO bully bill…a bill that says it’s ok to bully homosexuals if your religion or political outlook supports it.

What the fuck is this? Things like this make me sad to be a southern because there are so many people there who are uneducated, ignorant, and can’t wake up. I am completely intolerant of this nonsense. There have been so many young lives lost solely due to gay-bashing, including the now infamous story of Jacob Rogers…which happened in Tennessee.

And did I mention that they also want to stop the availability of homosexual/transsexual/transgender information in schools all together? So let me get this straight, Tennessee Republicans: You want innocent children to go through life thinking they are strange and different and take away the ability to educate themselves on who they are in the establishment in which we learn everything else? And you want to top it off by legally letting students saying they will, I don’t know, burn in hell? That Jesus hates them? A part of me honestly thinks that these people want these children dead- a “survival of the straight” movement, if you will. Living in that state for 24 years, I hate to even admit that I’ve seen and heard things that aren’t too far from that.

Once you start “justifying” bullying because of “religious beliefs,” it’s not going to end at homosexuality. We’ve seen so many PREteen suicides for being called sluts and whores. Doesn’t it say somewhere in the bible about burning harlots to death? So basically it would be ok to call that girl who made out with the boy you wanted to make out with a crazy slut to the point where she kills herself because, ya know, the bible and your “religious beliefs” and all.

There is a petition going around right now for anyone else who’s stomach is turned by this to help STOP the “License to Bully” and “Don’t Say Gay” bills. You don’t have to live in Tennessee to be affected by this or know it’s wrong. If this gets anywhere, it can open a whole window of opportunity for other insanely right-winged states to follow in their footsteps.
